About

Creativity has always been part of who I am, and I come from a creative family. My mom is well known for her quilting and sewing, and my dad restores and builds vintage cars. When I was little, my mom taught me how to sew, and over the years I took classes in painting, drawing, and clay. I carried my crafts with me wherever I went, and remember my mom packing a bag of drawing supplies for my brother's hockey games or long roadtrips, making sure I always had something to work on.

My foundation in creative process began in middle school. I took painting classes after school with an instructor who always encouraged me, even when I was shy, and taught with an open perspective where the subject, medium, and style were always up to the student, which helped me to form my own creative ideas and find sources of inspiration.

My relationship with making things hasn't been consistent. There were long stretches, through high school and university, where schoolwork, friends, and sports kept me busy. Occasionally I would make time to pick back up and create something, but it always felt difficult to start again after periods of time when my creativity was low. I still struggle with beginning a new project, especially in a new medium, but I've found a momentum in recent years that keeps me going, where one project flows into the next idea.

This site started as a way to document how my skills develop and how my creative interests change over time, but it's become something a little more personal than that. When I look back at a photo of something I made, I remember who I was when I made it, what was going on in my life, and the people around me at the time. This site is part project tracker, part memory book.
